Meet Your Dental Express Team

Dr. Baker

Point Loma

Dr. Baker has wanted to be a dentist for as long as she can remember.

She earned her dental degree from Midwestern University, where a strong, hands-on clinical program helped shape her approach as a thoughtful and skilled general dentist. At Dental Express, Dr. Baker is known for her calm, caring presence and her ability to put patients at ease. She believes dentistry works best in an environment built on trust, empathy, and teamwork, and she strives to create that experience for every patient she sees. Outside of the office, she enjoys hiking, paddleboarding, and spending time with her husband and their lively Pomeranian, Chico.

Why did you become a dentist?

I’ve wanted to be a dentist since I was four years old. Even back then, I was fascinated by teeth and by how every person has their own unique smile. What has always stuck with me is how much confidence a healthy smile can bring. Helping people feel comfortable, confident, and proud of their smile is what I’ve always loved—and it’s what continues to motivate me every day.

Where did you go to dental school, and what did you like about your school’s program?

I went to Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois. The faculty were deeply connected to the students, and the clinical training was strong. The program prepared us well for real-world practice and helped shape me into a confident, well-rounded general dentist. Midwestern does a great job of producing clinicians who are ready to care for patients from day one.

What would you say is the highlight of your career so far?

One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been seeing patients truly happy with their results—knowing that, in small but meaningful ways, I get to help improve people’s lives every day. I also love being part of a team where I feel supported and valued, working together to take great care of our patients and create an environment where everyone feels cared for and happy.

What would you say is your greatest challenge as a dentist?

One of the biggest challenges in my work is meeting patients where they are—especially those who come in with fear or past dental trauma. I spend a lot of time helping patients feel comfortable and supported, because trust matters just as much as treatment. My goal is always to give patients the care they need, but I also understand that sometimes it’s okay to pause, take things slowly, and let patients move forward when they’re truly ready.

What do you enjoy most about working at Dental Express?

I truly enjoy the team I work with. At Dental Express Point Loma, we all get along incredibly well, and our personalities complement one another. I appreciate how thoughtfully the team is built—everyone values dentistry, enjoys what they do, and respects one another. It really does feel like a family, with a strong sense of trust, respect, and care among the team, and I feel grateful to work alongside such an amazing group of people.

How do you help cultivate the Dental Express team?

I try to cultivate our team by leading with gratitude and positive feedback. Throughout the day, I see so many moments where team members go above and beyond—assistants moving seamlessly from room to room or the front office taking extra steps to support our patients. I make a point to acknowledge those efforts and let them know I see and appreciate their hard work. I also look for ways to support the team and lighten their load whenever I can, because they truly make my job easier and our patient care better.

Of Dental Express’s five core values—integrity, empathy, adaptability, collaboration, and Whistle While You Work—which do you feel you practice the most?

Of Dental Express’s core values, empathy and Whistle While You Work resonate with me the most. I’m naturally very empathetic, and I make a conscious effort to truly connect with patients—understanding where they’re coming from, what they may be feeling, and the stage of life they’re in. That same empathy extends to my teammates as well, and it guides how I move through my day. I also embrace the idea of Whistle While You Work—finding joy in the everyday moments and doing my best to bring a positive, steady energy even during challenging situations. At the core of it all, empathy is the value I lead with most.

What are your passions outside of dentistry?

Outside of dentistry, I love spending time outdoors—hiking, paddleboarding, and being in or near the ocean whenever I can. My husband and I also have a five-pound Pomeranian named Chico, who is truly our world. He’s full of energy and loves joining us on hikes and adventures, so a lot of our free time is spent outside together, enjoying the fresh air and staying active.

Who is your hero?

My heroes are my sisters. They’ve played a huge role in shaping who I am today, and their support, strength, and encouragement continue to inspire me and keep me moving forward.
