Overview Of Ceramic Dental Crowns
A crown is like a suit of armor for your tooth. If one of your teeth is damaged or worn down, you can protect it with a dental crown.
These restorations blend with your surrounding teeth to keep your smile natural.
Crowns return your teeth to their original shape and regain their full functionality.
At Dental Express in San Diego, CA, we use crowns to treat tooth decay, protect damaged teeth, repair a crack, or cover discoloration.
We offer dental crowns with various materials, including porcelain, porcelain-covered metal, and stainless steel dental crowns. Besides these, we also help you get quality dental gold crowns.
For long-term stability, we also offer implant-retained crown treatments.

Best Candidates for Cosmetic Dental Crowns
Crowns are a versatile restoration and are used for all types of dental issues. If you have cracked, decayed, damaged, or discolored teeth, then a crown might be the right solution for you. The material your crown is made out of will vary based on the location of the tooth, the tooth’s color, and if the patient is partial to any specific material. If the affected tooth is in the back of your mouth, a strong porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crown would be ideal. For front teeth, we can adjust porcelain crowns to match the color, shape, and size of your natural teeth. At your exam, we’ll help you choose the best solution for your smile.
What to Expect at Crowns Dental Care
At Dental Express, we typically complete crown treatments in two appointments.
During your first visit, we’ll take impressions of your teeth to create your custom crown.
While your custom crown is being created, we may give you temporary loose dental crowns with special instructions regarding dietary restrictions and at-home care.
The American Dental Association (ADA) suggests avoiding gum and sticky foods if we provide you with a temporary crown.
When your custom crown is finished, we’ll schedule your next visit to complete the treatment. To start, we’ll administer a local numbing anesthetic to the affected area. If you need something to help keep you relaxed during your treatment, we offer several sedation options to choose from. Let your dentist know if we can make your treatment process more accommodating. When the area is fully numb, your dentist will disinfect the area and file down your enamel to make space for the restoration. Depending on what kind of treatment you need, your dentist will either glue the crown to your tooth or attach it to a dental implant. To finish the treatment, we’ll work with you to ensure the crown fits naturally into your mouth and make any necessary adjustments.
Recovery
If you opted for a heavier sedation method, you should make sure to arrange a ride home. Otherwise, you can return to your day once you leave the office. After your treatment, a member of our dental team will give you instructions for at-home care and go over any dietary restrictions. The ADA recommends avoiding hard candies, ice, and chewing on hard objects like pens or straws to help your crown last as long as possible.
When you come in for your routine exams, your dentist will examine your crown to see if it needs to be adjusted or replaced. If it gets loose or falls out, don’t try to fix it yourself. Give us a call immediately to schedule an appointment and let us set you up with a new one.
Insurance Coverage
Depending on your policy, your insurer may provide partial coverage for your crown treatment. Before and after you meet with your dentist, one of our treatment planners will review your policy with you, ensuring you understand your personal costs and how to maximize your benefits. To help you find the right solution for your budget, we take many different payment methods and offer low-interest medical financing.
Top-notch dental care isn’t our only specialty at Dental Express. Removing the financial barriers between you and better dental health is a skill we sharpen every day. We know how tricky budgeting for treatments like these can be, and we promise to de-stress your dental health journey to the best of our ability.
