Having healthy gums is extremely important. Problems like gum disease and oral cancer can affect both your oral and general health if not treated properly. At Dental Express, we use state-of-the-art laser technology to deal with a broad range of gum (periodontal) conditions. This advanced treatment allows us to perform periodontal therapy more efficiently, take biopsies to detect precancerous or cancerous spots in your mouth, and perform cosmetic treatments like gum-sculpting to reduce “gummy” smiles. If you’re interested in laser gum treatment or you want to learn more about it, call us or set up an appointment at one of our locations in San Diego, CA.
"This place has been good so far. They are friendly and professional. Office is very clean and modern. Location is convenient if you are any where near point Loma. Ruben is an all-star extremely informative and has great communication, a pleasure to deal with. Dr Casey seems real down to earth and also easy to deal with. Overall my experience has been good and I would reccomend this spot."- J.F. / Google / Nov 13, 2019

"A big THANK YOU to the beautiful hardworking ladies at the downtown san diego office, i got an emergency filling in record time in a tooth that broke. They really take the weight off your shoulders in terms of "the fear of the dentist" and made it a quick and painless experience that I would recommend to anyone else who has dental needs, and a plus is that they take MEDI-CAL. They do a covid screening before making the appointment and before entering the building and everyone is pretty friendly. Thanks again!"- A.J. / Google / Dec 19, 2020
"It took me a long time to find a good and caring doctor as I have been developing a huge dentist phobia since childhood. That’s how I met Dr Michelle, a true professional. Very thoughtful, passionate, kind and understanding. Even though I moved from the area a year ago, and I tried to go see other places where I live now, I had to go back to Dr Michelle. The whole staff is totally amazing and professional.Recently I had my cleaning and as much as I felt anxious , I had an unforgettable experience with Paula, their new hygienist. She is truly one of the best experiences I had in a dentist office and I don’t have words to describe her. I felt so relaxed and no pain even though my teeth are very problematic and sensitive. When she finished I felt like crying out of happiness. She was unforgettable and I can’t wait to go back for my cleaning. As a person who dealt for a long time with this phobia, I found this place to be one of the only places where I felt relaxed. Even from the first time when I called and made an appointment and explained to them I have a huge phobia, I was recommended one of the best.I am very thankful for the whole staff, but Dr Michelle and Paula will forever have my heart! This is definitely a GO TO place and I will take the drive from La Jolla to Downtown as much as I need to!"- C.D. / Yelp / Dec 18, 2020
Laser treatment is a great option for anyone in need of periodontal treatment, an oral biopsy, or gum reduction. If you have periodontitis, we can use the laser to eliminate plaque and bacteria hidden deep in the pockets of your gums. For biopsies, we use it to extract tissue from the affected area. And for gum therapy, the laser removes excess gum tissue to show more of your teeth and give you a less gummy smile. Laser gum treatment is less invasive than surgery, requires little to no anesthesia, and doesn’t require stitches or lengthy recovery times.
What to Expect
We typically use local anesthesia for laser gum therapy, but we’re happy to provide other sedation options to make your treatment more comfortable. Depending on your treatment, our team will give you a breakdown of what to expect before you begin, whether it’s for gum disease, a biopsy, or cosmetic sculpting. With laser gum treatment, bleeding is minimal, and there’s no need for stitches.
Based on the treatment you received, our team will give you specific instructions on caring for your teeth after your appointment. Your gums may be swollen or sensitive for a few days, so you might want to stick to liquids and soft foods while they heal. If you had a periodontal or crown lengthening treatment, we might recommend a follow-up appointment to monitor your progress and determine if you need additional treatment. For biopsies, we may schedule a follow-up appointment to give you your results. If you’re diagnosed with oral cancer, your dentist will talk with you about treatment options and the best way forward for you and your dental health.
Depending on your laser gum treatment, our team will go over expenses and payment options with you. If you’re insured, we’ll get in touch with your provider to assess your coverage, benefits, and out-of-pocket costs. For patients without dental insurance, Dental Express accepts many different payment methods, including low-interest medical financing. Whatever your situation may be, we’ll find a solution that works best for you and your wallet.
