Endodontic Retreatment
Still having symptoms after a root canal? Endodontic retreatment at Dental Express is a great way to eliminate any leftover infection and keep your tooth safe from disease. If you’re showing signs of a second infection following root canal therapy, give us a call at any of our locations in San Diego, CA, for more information or to schedule an appointment. Keeping your teeth safe and healthy is our specialty.
Our Primary Focus is Your Oral Health
Unfortunately, after a root canal, you may not be out of the woods yet. If the root canal therapy didn’t clean out every bit of the infection, it can grow back and cause problems again. In some cases, the infection is removed completely, but new disease creeps in and takes hold of your tooth. Either way, if you start showing symptoms of disease after a root canal, then endodontic retreatment may be the best step forward. At Dental Express, we’ll keep a close eye on your dental health following root canal therapy to determine whether retreatment is right for you. Endodontic retreatment, much like root canal therapy, cleans and flushes out disease from your tooth canals. We aim to leave your tooth disease-free and seal it up to prevent further complications. If you notice any pain or signs of disease after root canal therapy, set up an appointment at one of our San Diego locations to see how endodontic retreatment can help.
Best Candidates
If you’ve had a root canal, but you’re still experiencing pain and discomfort in the affected tooth, then endodontic retreatment might be right for you. Unfortunately, sometimes retreatment may not be enough to save the tooth. In these cases, you may need an extraction or apicoectomy (a treatment where the root of your tooth is removed and replaced with a small filling). If you’re still experiencing symptoms after your root canal, we’ll do everything we can to save your tooth and come up with the best treatment plan to protect your oral health.
What to Expect
During endodontic retreatment, we use anesthesia to numb the affected area and keep you relaxed from start to finish. If you have anxiety or dentophobia, please don’t hesitate to talk to your dentist about stronger sedation methods. Whenever you’re ready, we’ll start by removing the filling we placed during your initial root canal treatment. Then, we’ll thoroughly clean and disinfect your tooth, emphasizing the tips and canals. Once we’ve cleaned out your tooth, we’ll strengthen it by sealing it with a new filling to keep any new disease from creeping in. To complete the treatment, we’ll usually add a dental restoration like a crown or bridge to your tooth for extra protection.
Recovery
We suggest taking a couple of days off after your endodontic retreatment to heal and recover. Your dentist will set you up with instructions for your recovery, outlining post-treatment care at home, and any recommended pain-relieving medications or antibiotics. Once your gums have healed completely, sticking to your dental care regimen becomes all the more important. Brush and floss daily at home, and don’t miss your yearly dental checkups. Good dental hygiene keeps your smile healthy and can save you from further complications down the road.
Insurance Coverage
Your insurance coverage will differ based on the severity of your retreatment and the sedation option you choose. Before starting your endodontic practice, we’ll get in touch with your insurance provider to see what they’ll cover and if there are any additional expenses. If you don’t have dental insurance, we accept many payment methods and offer low-interest medical financing. Your dental health is our top priority, and we’re committed to finding the best and most budget-friendly routes of endodontics rotary systems to your ideal smile.
